Your Alarm system can be configured to automatically alert you via your phone, while a police-linked system will raise the alarm at the local police station. And at the top of the range, a GSM-linked system can cover you with dual monitoring insted of relying solely on a telephone line - so even if the line is cut , the alarm is still raised.
